Our Guides & Staff

​Here at Northeast Mountain Guiding we pride ourselves on professionalism.  We staff some of the most highly respected and experienced guides in the country.  All of our guides are CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Wilderness First Aid certified along with being trained and/or certified in the discipline they are instructing/guiding.  We are the only guide service in the region that currently employs guides certified by the Professional Climbing Guides Institute and the American Hiking Guides Association.  Our guides training and certifications are conducted by Nationally or Internationally recognized organizations.

Our founder and current owners are highly respected figures in the outdoor education and guiding industry.  They also are founders, curriculum developers or directly involved with various levels of National and International guide training and search and rescue training organizations in the United States.  When you're in the wilderness or mountains with us you're with trained professionals, some of the best in the industry!  Our President and Vice President's information is listed below. Joseph is a certified PCGI Top-Rope Guide and works alongside certified guides on a weekly basis. He is currently training for his PCGI Multi-Pitch Guide certification. He is also a Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness Advanced First Aid and Wilderness First Responder Instructor as well as a High/Low Angle Rescue Instructor. He is a former volunteer EMT with South Aberdeen EMS/Bayshore EMS where he served as Sergeant for 2 terms. South Aberdeen EMS responds to 1200+ emergency 911 calls annually. Joey is also an adjunct instructor with the Center for Wilderness Safety.

Bryan took the Top Rope Guide course with the Professional Climbing Guides Institute in 2015 and is working toward his certification. He currently works full-time for the New Jersey State Police NJ Task Force 1 as their Search & Rescue Coordinator.

Joseph "Joey" Vulpis

President & Founder

Joey has been guiding for many years and is an essential part of the outdoor education industry in the United States. He is a co-founder of the Mountain Leader program (American Hiking Guides Association) which has established itself in the United States as the governing body for training and certification for hiking and backpacking guides (Mountain Leaders). He is the current Secretary of the Board for the Professional Climbing Guides Institute (PCGI) and was a member of their Board of Directors for 2 consecutive terms. Joey is also a co-founder, Chief, Technical Team Leader and head instructor for Bayshore Search & Rescue, a wilderness ground search and rescue team in Central New Jersey. He is currently developing curriculum for backcountry water safety and backcountry food handlers. Joey, a father of 2 children, calls New Jersey his home.

Bryan Enberg

Vice President & Pro-Services Division Founder

Bryan Enberg is the co-founder of our Professional Services Division. He has been a member of New Jersey Search and Rescue for sixteen years and is a former Chief for them as well. He runs their Mountain Rescue division. Before getting into SAR, he was a firefighter for nine years with the Waldwick Volunteer Fire Department.

Bryan serves as President with the Mountain Rescue Association. He is a current member of the Board of Directors for the National Association for Search & Rescue. He holds certifications as an instructor for NASAR's Managing the Lost Person Incident (MLPI), Introduction to Search and Rescue (ISAR), and Fundamentals of Search and Rescue (FUNSAR). Bryan recently developed the newly released NASAR program, Initial Actions in Search and Rescue. Bryan also instructs Rope Rescue and Patient Packaging and Transport, and offers consulting services regarding team management, social media and professional standards credentialing. Bryan, a father of one son, calls New Jersey his home.
